Masa perdida (Plaza de las 4 culturas)
2017
Mexico City, Mexico

Raw clay seeds, Ceramic Piñatas
Dimensions variable

A double entendre, Masa Perdida references both masa as “masses of people” and masa as corn Dough. Linking mass disappearances in Mexico (both as a result of violence and immigration) and the disappearance of Mexico’s autochthonous Corn crops. The clay piñatas and seeds installed in the “Plaza de las tres Culturas” invoke the concentrated history of violence within it.  Masa Perdida becomes a response to traditions, history,  displacement, loss, and the identities that arise when those meet.
